English pub operators could see some volatility during the World Cup as the direction of the England national team becomes clearer with each game.
Every extra game that England plays in the World Cup during the knockout stages is a huge benefit to the pub sector (as much as three extra revenue days per quarter).
Berenberg thinks Greene King (OTC:GRKGF, OTCPK:GKNGY) could be the biggest beneficiary if the Three Lions do well, while Mitchells & Butlers (OTCPK:MBPFF, OTC:MBPFY), Restaurant Group, J.D. Wetherspoon (OTC:JDWPF, [[JDWYPY]]) and Marston's (OTCPK:MARZF, OTC:MRTPY) could also be intriguing World Cup pub picks. Outside of pure play pub stocks, Dominos Pizza UK (OTC:DPUKF, OTCPK:DPUKY) is seen gaining with each game England plays, while Cineworld (OTC:CNWGY, OTCPK:CNNWF) is expected to lose some theater traffic.
Key dates: England plays Tunisia on June 18, Panama on June 24 and Belgium on June 28.
