Enbridge (ENB) says it started construction of the offshore border crossing section of its $1.6B Valley Crossing natural gas pipeline between Texas and Mexico.

Valley Crossing is designed to carry as much as 2.6B cf/day to help meet Mexico's growing power needs as generators in the country shift away from fuel oil and imported liquefied natural gas.

ENB has been working on the project since April 2017 and said last month that it had “substantially completed” the onshore part of the pipe.

Valley Crossing will connect in the Gulf of Mexico to the Sur de Texas-Tuxpan pipeline under construction by a joint venture between units of TransCanada (TRP -0.7%) and Sempra Energy (SRE -2.1%); when complete, it will be the biggest gas pipeline between the U.S. and Mexico.
