Reuters: U.S. renewable fuel credits surge on report of EPA action

|By:, SA News Editor

U.S. renewable fuel credits jumped by a nickel to $0.28 today following a report that the Environmental Protection Agency may reallocate exempt ethanol gallons under its waiver program to other refiners, Reuters reports.

The EPA could make an announcement as part of the release on Friday of the agency’s annual biofuel blending mandates under the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, some traders say.

Such a move would be welcomed by biofuel groups who say the EPA’s broad use of the small refinery waiver program has effectively lowered the 15B-gallon U.S. ethanol blending mandate by ~10%.
