Harley-Davidson says EU tariffs likely to cause price hikes this fall

  • Harley-Davidson (HOG -2.6%) likely will need to raise prices in Europe this fall as new motorcycle models hit dealer showrooms, thanks to European Union tariffs on U.S. goods, the head of its central European business tells Reuters.
  • The European Commission said earlier this week that it would start charging 25% duties on a range of U.S. imports in retaliation for U.S. tariffs on EU steel and aluminum.
  • HOG says it is getting hit by tariffs twice - once by the EU import duty and once by a rise in raw material prices resulting from U.S. steel tariffs.
  • HOG has been aiming to increase sales of its motorcycles overseas to 50% of total annual volume from ~43% currently amid a slump in U.S. demand.
