Goldman's (NYSE:GS) board will meet this fall to discuss the retirement of CEO Lloyd Blankfein and the promotion of President and COO David Solomon, according to the story. Also on the agenda will be the successor to Solomon as COO once he takes over the CEO spot.
Rumor has it that Blankfein could retire by year-end.
Among those in the running as next COO (and putative successor to Solomon): Stephen Scherr - CEO of Goldman Sachs Bank USA; John Waldron - co-head of investment banking; Richard Gnodde - vice chairman of Goldman and CEO of Goldman Sachs International; Marty Chavez - Goldman CFO.
