  • Japan is preparing a plan to buy billions of dollars of U.S. military equipment, including at least 40 Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) F-35 stealth fighters worth about $4B, Reuters reports.
  • The F-35s, which will replace 100 aging F-15 fighter jets, are in addition to an earlier order for 42 of the aircraft.
  • The new procurement will leave Japan with about 100 stealth fighters, including some vertical take off B variants that could fly from helicopter carriers, as tensions heat up in the East China Sea.
