Apple iPhone (OTCPK:HNHAF, OTCPK:HNHPD) assembler Foxconn/Hon Hai is in final talks to build a chip plant in the Chinese city of Zhuhai with a total investment of $9B, according to Nikkei Asian Review sources.

Zhuhai would offset the investment cost with subsidies and tax breaks.

The project could be a JV between Foxconn, its subsidiary Sharp, and the government.

The investment comes during US-China trade war tensions and follows a report that Apple would consider pulling manufacturing from China if tariffs skyrocket.
