BP approves Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG phase 1 development

BP and its partners announce a final investment decision for phase 1 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim development, Africa’s deepest offshore liquefied natural gas project and the first off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal.

BP expects the Tortue floating liquefied natural gas facility will produce 2.5M metric tons/year of LNG from the field which holds total gas resources estimated at ~15T cf; work on the project will begin Q1 2019, and first gas is expected in 2022.

BP is the project’s operator, with a 60% stake in the development in Senegal and 62% in Mauritania, while other partners include Kosmos Energy (NYSE:KOS), with a 30% stake in Senegal and 28% in Mauritania.
