GE pops to the top of S&P 500, +8% to kick off 2019

General Electric (GE +7.7%) surges as much as 8% and pushes to the top of the S&P 500 as it kicks off the new year.

Bloomberg takes the occasion to offer a reminder that the stock also started last year in fine fashion, riding high among the Dow's leaders in the first week and a half of 2018 after ending 2017 at the bottom of the index.

Buyer’s remorse set in shortly thereafter as the rally fizzled and shares sold off steadily, eventually propelling the stock's exit from the Dow en route to a 57% loss for the full year.
