Boeing (NYSE:BA) Commercial Airplanes chief engineer John Hamilton, named in March to lead the company's response to the 737 MAX crisis, is retiring, the Seattle Times reports, citing an internal memo.

Hamilton had planned to retire last year but was asked to remain and help with the MAX's return to service efforts, according to the memo.

Hamilton reportedly will be replaced by Lynne Hopper, who in March took over his role as VP of engineering for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
