Tokyo under pressure to pick U.S. fighter jet

As Japan looks to replace its F-2 fighter jets, the Trump administration is piling on the pressure to choose a U.S. defense contractor, FT reports.

Pentagon officials have stepped up talks amid concerns the U.S. could lose out to BAE Systems (OTCPK:BAESY), the U.K. defense firm developing a sixth generation Tempest stealth fighter.

Tokyo is currently considering three options: collaborating with BAE, working with Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) - the maker of the F-22 and F-35, or developing a plane domestically.
