- Carnival (NYSE:CCL) drops 1.9% in premarket trading after it extends its pause in U.S. departures through April 30, 2021 and cancelling Australian operations through May 19, 2021, as the COVID-19 resurgence continues to pound the hospitality sector.
- It's also cancelled European itineraries for Carnival Legend, which were scheduled to begin May through Oct. 31, 2021, and moved the start date for Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral, with the first cruise now set for May 29, 2021.
- Still, the company said its "heartened" by booking demand.
- "Unfortunately we have determined it's going to take a while longer, and the situation in Europe will also impact Mardi Gras' departure to the U.S., and Carnival Legend's itineraries in Europe," Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said.
- Stocks of other cruise line operators also decline in premarket. Royal Caribbean (NYSE:RCL) slips 1.1% and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NYSE:NCLH) falls 1.6%.
