United Airlines offering new exit deals with pay - Reuters

  • United Airlines (UAL, -2%) has offered a fresh round of exit deals that include pay and health benefits, Reuters reports, citing a memo to employees that the news agency saw.
  • Exit deals offered last year did not include pay.
  • “Given the continued, near-term variations in travel demand, we’ll look for new ways to give our employees flexibility by introducing voluntary options that help reduce costs and may reduce the number of furloughs of recalled employees," a United spokeswoman told Reuters.
  • The Biden administration has already put in place new regulations on travel, including mandatory mask-wearing on flights and quarantine for international travelers coming into the U.S.
  • The carrier's revenue guidance this week disappointed Wall Street and the company then said its focus would be on cutting costs.
  • The United numbers rattled the airline sector as a whole this week, but Barclays came out with a bullish long-term view of the sector.
