Shopify rips strong quarter, expects hot growth rate to moderate
- Shopify (NYSE:SHOP) gains after revenue sailed 94% higher in Q4 and GMV soared 99% to $41.1B.
- The company recorded an adjusted gross margin rate of 52.2% of sales vs. 51.6% consensus and 53.4% a year ago. The adjusted operating margin rate of 20.5% topped the consensus mark of 15.6% and level a year ago of 5.6%.
- Monthly recurring revenue $82.6M during the quarter improved from the $74.4M mark in Q3.
- Shopify expects to see growth rates slow down in 2021.
- "While we expect that Q1 will likely still contribute the smallest share of full-year revenue and Q4 the largest, the revenue spread may be more evenly distributed across the four quarters than it has been historically if the rollout of a vaccine shifts more spending to services and offline shopping towards the back half of the year."
