- The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a statement warning people not to use Peloton (NASDAQ:PTON) Tread+ treadmills with children or pets nearby, following multiple incidents of children and pets being injured beneath the machines.
- The CPSC says it is aware of 39 incidents including one death, and believes the Peloton Tread+ "poses serious risks to children for abrasions, fractures and death."
- Peloton says it is "disappointed that, despite its offers of collaboration, and despite the fact that the Tread+ complies with all applicable safety standards, CPSC was unwilling to engage in any meaningful discussions with Peloton before issuing its inaccurate and misleading press release."
- Peloton shares soared 434% in 2020 as people adopted the company's products during the pandemic as people stayed home, but shares slid 5% on March 18 when CEO John Foley disclosed that a child had died in an accident involving one of its treadmills.
