Robert Teitelman takes issue with the suggestion that CEO envy is the driving force behind M&A waves: "The real problem here is that what lurks beneath this verbiage is a set of assumptions about human nature that may be popular politically, but is about as realistic as the notion that all academics smoke pipes and live in ivory towers. It's the kind of reductionism one might have supposed academia exists to combat. And it's the kind of simplemindedness that got us in our current mess."
