Canadian Solar (CSIQ-3.1%) warns all panel imports from China risk being detained by U.S. Customs, after four of its sample modules shipped from China to its U.S. office were held by officials last week.
While the number of imports affected was limited, "it seems that all solar module shipments from China are detained" by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Solar tells Bloomberg.
The Biden administration appears to have begun halting shipments of some solar panels as part of a crackdown on alleged human rights abuses involving China's ethnic Uyghur Muslim minority in Xinjiang.
"Preliminary checks with solar distributors suggest that 40 MW of solar modules might have been detained (likely JinkoSolar modules), though this is yet to be confirmed," Credit Suisse analysts say, according to Bloomberg.
Solar companies - not just those based in China - trade mostly lower: JKS-4.2%, RUN-3.8%, ENPH-3.6%, SPWR-2.6%, SEDG-1.5%.
