Why are airline stocks lower today?
Tim Dunn profile picture
@Gladiator321 probably because crude oil is up again. The two usually trade in opposite directions.
There was also alot of euphoria after earnings even though most airlines said they will still lose money in the first two months of 2022 and for the 1st quarter as a whole. The recovery remains "just around the corner"

@Gladiator321 I was thinking it had more to do with the personal spending and consumer sentiment readings for December and January. Just a lot of concern about weak consumer spending and ongoing inflationary pressures so consumer discretionary takes a hit. However, the economy has grown at the fastest clip in 2021 since 1984, so the recovery is obviously there... as is the volatility. How about that rebound, eh?

Just saw brand new Spirit airplanes on a train in Denver today. If they are buying new airplanes they must be expecting business to grow. SAVE looks like a good buy right now at ~$21.

$LUV is going report its earnings this coming Thursday. I have a feeling it will not be a good one due to higher oil price.

I like how my dip-buy on $DAL back in November has since been outperforming the $SPY by a wide margin... didn't quite expect that. Hopefully that continues.

I bought today intraday.. I think this will be the best opportunity of 2022

fears of war and higher fuel prices are weighing on airlines

@Tim Dunn quite possibly. Also it is very, very hard for the average stock to go up in a bear market or large correction like this. Panic sellers indiscriminately dump everything.

@Tim Dunn Hard to be bearish when many of them hit 52 week lows today intraday

Was in SLC and DEN this weekend, holy crap!! Very busy all around, both legs of the flight completely full. Made me want to buy airlines this morning.

@LPeepo yea domestic travel is pretty much back. International back very soon..

@m3media TSA checkpoint numbers show another story. Traffic down 20-30% vs. 2020.

Right before the holidays it was running only down 5-10%. this is probably the omicron slowdown combined with a lack of business travel.
S
@metalhead yea omicron is hurting a bit but will pass very soon.

DAL is very cheap as well
