Airbus (OTCPK:EADSF) (OTCPK:EADSY) reported Wednesday that it made 47 deliveries in May, 6% fewer than the same month last year, bringing the YTD total to 235, up 7% from the first five months of 2021.
According to Reuters, May's deliveries included 37 of the A320 single-aisle planes that comprise most of Airbus' (OTCPK:EADSF) income, suggesting the company added to a backlog of undelivered planes based on its latest 50/month announced production rate.
The month's deliveries were "not the breakthrough Airbus would have wanted," a supply chain source told Reuters, as the planemaker has targeted a total 720 commercial deliveries this year.
In new business, Airbus (OTCPK:EADSF) booked 13 gross orders in May, lifting its YTD tally to 364 aircraft, or net orders of 191 after accounting for 173 cancellations.
As of the end of April, rival Boeing had sold 213 jets, or 157 after comparable cancellations.
