  • Effective Aug. 1, monkeypox will be considered a nationally notifiable condition by the CDC, a move the agency says will help to better understand how the virus is spreading, Politico reported.
  • According to a letter sent to state epidemiologists on Monday, states will have to report a confirmed or suspected monkeypox case within 24 hours.
  • Politico noted that the change does not mandate reporting to the CDC the number of people that have been vaccinated.
  • As of July 26, there have been 3590 confirmed cases in the U.S.
  • Key monkeypox players: Bavarian Nordic (OTCPK:BVNKF), SIGA Technologies (NASDAQ:SIGA), Chimerix (NASDAQ:CMRX), and Emergent Biosolutions (NYSE:EBS). SIGA (SIGA) is the biggest gainer in Wednesday afternoon trading, up ~5%.
  • Earlier Wednesday, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged gay and bisexual men to curb the number of sexual partners in a bid to control the outbreak.
