Dear retail investors of household savings - please never allocate your investment capital to airline companies. Never. Similarly, totally avoid cruise companies, restaurants, hotels, hospitality, casino and travel related stocks. You don't need this garbage in your investment portfolio.

@SuperPac Sounds like you have accumulated some losses in this sector.

No. None. I never invest in these sectors. I am advising others not to do it too.

I invest in healthcare (pharma, medical devices), military-industrial stocks (LMT, NOC), market data (MSCI, SPGI), industrial gases (LIN APD), consumer and technology and some banks.

I avoid airline, cruiseline, casino, hotels, travel etc with a 100 feet long bargepole. Bad sectors. Never go there.

@SuperPac based on your comments, I think airlines are a great place to invest. Thanks.
d
The airline is short pilots and equipment. Nothing prevents this from happening again.

Go Woke Go Broke...such a shame, this was such a decent airline for yrs compared to the likes of Delta/American/United...when they harassed their own loyal pilots/flight attendants during the Covid, that was beginning of the end, their "best" guys left or quit in disgust. No different than current military in the US, unable to recruit enough qualified soldiers, due to their own Woke demands.....oh well, let's use up their points before they become irrelevant....

Did management find a magic wand? There is no way they will be back to normal by tomorrow, magical thinking will not solve their deep seated problems.

@blenkep no worries mate, Pothole Pete is all over it

During the last "melt down", 75 million in lost revenue and NO ONE lost their job. Guaranteed this will happen again as the "changes " being made are pure media PR window dressing. The fundamental systematic problems here are going unresolved. But at least the shareholders got the dividend reinstated!

Don’t forget all the right wing pilots that cheered on the 2017 tax scam byntheir hero Donnie, and domaine is like southwest promised they would spend their savings on capital improvements. Now the right wing pilots look the other way and cry for govt help. These are the same pilots from SWAPA that put tape over their iPads thinking the company js tracking them.

"The tools we use to recover from disruption serve us well 99% of the time"

Your flight is delayed.
You miss your connecting flight.
Didn’t matter anyway as the connecting flight was cancelled.
They lose your luggage.
They rebook you in two days and but first refuse to pay for accommodation.
Then they say they won't reimburse your Megabus ride to your destination.
Megabus gets you there next day.
Just as well as the Southwest flight in two days was also cancelled.
Did I say luggage still lost days later.

Maybe this works for management, but change is coming whatever the hapless CEO says.

""Southwest's flight delays and cancellations are beyond unacceptable," Sanders (I-Vt.) wrote on Twitter. "This is a company that got a $7 billion taxpayer bailout and will be handing out $428 million in dividends to their wealthy shareholders. The U.S. Department of Transportation must hold Southwest's CEO accountable for his greed and incompetence."

Regrettably, it will also cost shareholders over the next six months.
D
@TommyIrish The cost was already shouldered by the shareholders as the share price dropped 10% in 2 days. Not sure what you expect to happen over the next six months.

We should have zero, less than zero, sympathy for ''shareholders'' who are still invested in these duds. Such companies actually died awhile ago. They have been kept alive by the ZIRP-excess cash sloshing about in the system. The shareholders should exit and take their capital to more sensible companies and starve this company of capital to its well deserved demise. If such shareholders stay and perish with the company, we should celebrate and drink champagne.
@Dukebailey

@SuperPac “have been kept alive by the ZIRP-excess cash“

LUV kept alive by ZIRP is a bizarre perspective and probably one of the most misguided and misinformed statements made on SA. You lose credibility with such statements.

“The shareholders should exit… and starve this company of capital to its well deserved demise”

You obviously don’t understand how investing works. Shareholders can’t take their capital from the company. 🤣

BTW, I doubt that LUV shareholders are looking for sympathy.

You sound angry. How much did you lose?

What a disaster. Can't imagine the CTO and the CEO having jobs after this.

@Who Moved My Cheese

Something isn't quite right with the US airline industry the last year of price rises rub people the wrong way. And the never-ending extra-fees for everything always. And the cancel culture without compensation.

To be avoided in general and LUV especially for the next six months.

Long-Covid...

One by one all your industries are headed in this direction. Toxic monetary policies for 14 years, toxic politics and toxic culture. Companies do not operate in a vacuum. They are floating in the same pool of societal waste matter as everything and everyone.
@TommyIrish
S
@Who Moved My Cheese the CTO and CEO will stay.
