Mercer says Cariboo mill to go through downtime for 8 weeks

Mercer (NASDAQ:MERC) said Tuesday that the operator of the Cariboo Pulp and Paper mill has announced a planned curtailment of operation beginning in mid-April for a month and then for another month in the third quarter.

Mercer has a joint venture interest in Cariboo Pulp and Paper mill. 

The company is curtailing its operations due to decrease in availability of fiber in British Columbia. Recent insect infestation, fire, and Government policy have all impacted the amount of available fiber in the region, Mercer said.

Downtime at the mill will better align production capacity with the available fiber supply, the company said.
