Ameren (NYSE:AEE) unveiled plans Tuesday to build or acquire new solar projects with a combined generation of 550 MW of renewable energy, capable of producing enough energy to supply more than 95K average-sized residential homes.

Well, I just assumed Ameren was planning to just turn off the power (to those customers who request "Solar Power") during the night and on cloudy days. Am I misinformed?

What’s interesting about this is that I’m an Ameren customer and they want households to pay extra if they want to use solar power. That could be a tough sell. I’m guessing that if they don’t generate enough customers willing to pay extra for solar power that they will just charge everybody for it.
