Looking at a two-year window (as the government does) significantly undercounts student-loan defaults, which have risen to one in five loans that entered repayment in 1995, the Chronicle of Higher Education reports. Defaults are higher in loans made to students of two-year colleges (31%) - and reach 40% for those attending for-profit institutions.
