Chinese inflation of 4.4% combined with deposit rates of just 2.5% is like "adding fuel to the fire," says economist Fred Hu. Hu adds that China's reluctance to raise rates and/or let the yuan appreciate have caused it to fall "behind the curve" in its attempt to contain inflation.
