Twenty-six states and D.C. posted unemployment rate increases in August, 12 states recorded rate decreases, and 12 states had no rate change. Nevada continued to report the highest rate at 13.4%, followed by California (12.1%) and Michigan (11.2%). Washington, D.C.’s hike to 11.1% was impacted by sharp reductions in government jobs.
