Automobile industry snapshot: With a third of the year in the books, the fight for market share in the U.S. is being won by Ford (NYSE:F), Chrysler (FIATY.PK), and Toyota while South Korean automakers stumble (OTCPK:KIMTF, OTCPK:HYMLF) and General Motors (NYSE:GM) slowly recovers to where it stood six months ago. Though estimates for total industry sales in 2013 keep ranging higher, watch for Japanese automakers (OTCPK:NSANY, HMC, TM) to use a weakened yen to compete more aggressively on price. On the EV front, the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt hope to take advantage of Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) pulling the plug on its 40-kWh version of the Model S.
