Facebook struggles to land big-company ad spends after firms find they can reach large audiences with low-cost social media campaigns that go viral if well-executed. Pepsico's (PEP) Frito-Lay division demonstrated the phenomenon when it landed a Guiness World Record 1.57M Facebook "fans" in 24 hours without a traditional advertising buy. Though Facebook doubles its H1 revenue to $1.6B, it was small-business advertising that led the charge - not Fortune 500 companies.
