Retired from Health care and real estate development. Working 70/80 per week for more money then I could spend in many lifetimes. this looked like a poor goal in life so retired at 52. Now spend my spare time as an investor on a global basis. My approach is the same as when I owned my Companies which meant extensive research and following the economic trends. I often visit the Companies that I am investing.

Founder of Disruptive Tech Research – a technology research and advisory firm serving the investment management community. We provide registered investment professionals and qualified firms with independent, targeted research to support the generation of investment ideas. We focus on patent-filing activity to identify the most promising disruptive technology trends early. Then, we employ an original, bottom-up fundamental research approach to uncover micro- and small-cap ideas that are underfollowed, underappreciated and undervalued. Our mission is to provide clients with differentiated, actionable and thorough fundamental research at a cost effective price. We’re 100% independent. That means absolutely no pay-to-play arrangements, no hidden agendas and no hype. Just solid research. And yes, we eat our own cooking.
A regular guy (still alive from New York!) who shows how he would manage a model (not actual) portfolio for educational purposes only, my personal finances are my own business and the disclosure statement is only for the portfolio we are discussing (if an asset is held personally, I will note that in the disclosure). I give absolutely no advice, and only offer suggestions on how I could manage a portfolio. My personal portfolio and finances can change at any time, which has nothing to do with the educational value of any article.
The main reason for a subscriber to "Follow" me, especially for the model portfolios (TARP or otherwise), is to glean some knowledge to become a better investor and not simply place bets. Money management is every bit as important as any other aspect of investing, and by following a portfolio and the actions taken, you can gain some insight into a somewhat higher level of investing acumen. There are no requirements, and this is not "rocket science" - it is simply a powerful way for you to put the money you have worked hard for to work even harder for you. My message will be consistent, and my hope by doing this is to share my own experiences, illustrated in the model mock portfolios I build exclusively for Seeking Alpha. Knowledge is power, and many folks shy away from the investing world because that very world makes it more confusing each and every day in an effort to sell you something: stock picks, technical strategies, books, videos, subscriptions with "secret ideas," gadgets, and even snake oil. My promise to you is that my work here will remain free to all of my followers, with the hope of giving to you some of the things that took years for me to learn myself.
From a very young age, Steven learned the value of money and saving. He started saving money when he was only five, washing his father’s car and started to invest in Dutch shares when he was fourteen.
Following university in Amsterdam, Steven pursued a career in merchant banking in The Netherlands. Since 1989, he has been living and working in London.
Steven left the City in 1998 and since then, has been involved both as a founder as well as an early stage investor with a number of online and mobile telecoms ventures, including Ukonlineinvesting.com – a now defunct website which was aimed at longer term investors interested in making better informed investment decisions.
In 2009, Steven started Early-Retirement-Investor.com, a website aimed at professionals and expats wanting to retire earlier and richer. In 2010, Steven launched Dividend Income Investor, to demonstrate the benefits of dividend income investing based on his own unique investment research approach, buying shares at historically undervalued levels.

Having lived in SE Asia since 2004, I realize investors must take a more skeptical and realistic view of the risks and rewards that come with investing in emerging markets. I would be the most familiar with Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam as I have or spend most of my time in these countries.

The Investment Strategist was initially started to guide DIY investors on Seeking Alpha to take a more strategic approach to investing than purely individual stock selection. My philosophy is that portfolio management is similar to cooking a gourmet meal, where the combination of ingredients, in their respective proportions, is better than an abundance of any one ingredient (or stock).
After years of evaluating portfolios, it was evident that many investors put together a smorgasbord of ideas without regard to how they fit together or move together, creating very inefficient and risky portfolios. In addition, most US investors are guilty of familiarity bias, and their portfolios are primarily invested in well-known stocks of US companies, while international equities and more obscure asset classes, like emerging market debt, remain absent from portfolios. T
While the Investment Strategist does provide individual stock ideas to cater to the Seeking Alpha reader, I try to put the ideas into context so that readers can invest using a broader perspective on how an individual stock fits into their portfolio.
