Physical Chemistry Professor Emeritus (retired 6/1/16), deluded into believing that a spreadsheet and 24 years worth of historical data are sufficient to devise a winning trading strategy that focuses primarily on volatility ETFs.
My first experience with investing was just prior to the dot com crash. I read up on momentum investing (how do buy) but not when to sell. You can guess how that turned out.
I began developing my current strategies in 2011, based primarily on my own ideas, available data, and self-taught expertise in programming Excel spreadsheets. The strategies have worked well enough for me to retire from my day job eight years ahead of my original expectations.
Adam Zingg, CFA offers both practical and theoretical perspectives that will benefit readers who wish to learn more about how to execute on views or strategies that interest them.
Whatever your overarching philosophy or expertise, I believe there is value in understanding how trading works. This is perhaps especially true for investors, who often take a more philosophical, less mechanical view when it comes to their processes.
It is not my goal to:
1) convince you which side of the market to be on
2) establish your trading time frames
3) have you directly follow any specific trade ideas
Instead, I aim to demonstrate how complicated sounding ideas can be simplified and accessible. My hope is to grow your tool kit of resources, and give you healthy confidence to execute your own personalized strategy.
Trading and investment are fascinating, applicable across a wide variety of fields and disciplines. Greater focus on targeting, execution, and exit strategies build transferable life skills.
In reading my work, it is my goal that you will consistently glean useful insights and build skills that enhance your ability to trade and make important decisions.

I'm an investment professional with more than 15 years of trading experience.
My current and upcoming articles will contain a short synopsis of overall market developments on a weekly basis. Particular focus is on VIX-related instruments.
Perhaps more than any other time in the last six decades, the fate of markets is inextricably intertwined with the ebb and flow of geopolitics. From the ECB's attempts to use the central bank's balance sheet to influence political outcomes across the eurozone to Saudi Arabia's efforts to transform the kingdom's influence over crude prices into an instrument of foreign policy, it's become increasingly clear that one simply cannot fully comprehend market movements without a thorough understanding of concurrent political outcomes. Drawing on extensive experience in both politics and finance, Heisenberg will help demystify a world in which investors can no longer hope to conceptualize markets as existing in anything that even approximates a vacuum. "I am the one who knocks."
I only look at stocks that have the possibility to double over a twelve month period and stocks in which the risk/reward ratio payout is high. In addition I focus on swing trade opportunities. I focus more on valuations and risk/reward metrics as opposed to what make companies tick. I have been a professional investor for over 20 years and during the past several years an economics analyst and financial writer for capital.gr, the biggest economic news portal in Greece. I have managed money from time to time and have also done some seed venture capital projects in the past.
