Vatalyst: Value Investing with a Catalyst
I am an independent trader originally from New York. I am mostly a value and commodities investor, but I do use some options based hedging strategies as well.
I hope you enjoy my work!
Retired investor after a 25 year career in Silicon Valley, with management, engineering, marketing, and angel investing experience in semiconductors, software, and peripherals. Today's investment plan: Let dog out, surf Seeking Alpha, let dog in.
I started in the industry in 1980 as a stock broker in Denver Colorado. In 1990 I started an investment advisory firm. In 1994 I founded CyberFund LLC which invested in public and private technology companies. I retired from the money management industry in 2003.
Since 1988 I have designed a variety of market analytical tools that I continue to use personally and now offer on a subscription basis. The Delineator is a trend model that operates on multiple time frames; the Accumulators are advanced tape reading monitors that can identify algo and dark pool trades.
I write the Delineator Journal during the day to provide my insights into how to use my software to users and those interested in learning.

I'm the founder of Seeking Alpha. I led it for its first 10 years until 2015. Two years later, I returned to Seeking Alpha to run product, which is the aspect of my work as a founder I most loved. I started Seeking Alpha after working for five years as a technology research analyst for Morgan Stanley in New York. After I left, I wrote The ETF Investing Guide (which you can find by clicking on "Author's Picks" below), and some articles about individual stocks, and then started inviting other people to contribute to the website. Seeking Alpha is now the dominant crowdsourced platform for discussion of stocks and investing, and the only place with coverage of many mid and small cap stocks. I have a B.A from Oxford University and an MSc from The London School of Economics, and am married with five children.
Dr. Robert N. Castellano, president of The Information Network (http://www.theinformationnet.com/), received a Ph.D. degree in solid state chemistry from Oxford University (England). He has had ten years experience in the field of wafer fabrication at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Stanford University. He has authored numerous reports for other publishing companies before founding The Information Network. He has been editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Active and Passive Electronic Devices since 2000. He is author of the book "Technology Trends in VLSI Manufacturing" published by Gordon and Breach. He is also a Senior Contributor to TheStreet.com. His book "Solar Panel Processing" was published in 2009 by Old City Publishing. His latest book, "Alternative Energy Technology" was published in 2012. Also in the solar area, he is CEO of SolarPA, which uses a proprietary nanomaterial to coat solar cells, increasing the efficiency by up to 10%. He recently published a fictional novel Blessed, available on Amazon and other sites.
I am Seeking Alpha's CEO and Editor-in-Chief. My love for the stock markets goes back to when I was a kid. Who else remembers combing through the stock quotes at the back of the business section of your local paper?
I joined Seeking Alpha in 2006 and launched Wall Street Breakfast and Market Currents, our top-of-class short-form breaking news for investors. In 2010 I became editor-in-chief and in 2015 I became CEO.
I live in Jerusalem with my wife and a bunch of exceptional kids. Most days, you'll find me making the commute from Jerusalem to Raanana. Occasionally I get to work from my home-office, from where I keep an eye on the beautiful Judean Hills.
To contact me, send me a direct message, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
