Born in Spain, where I lived before moving first to Paris and then to Belgium, where I am currently based, I am a young investor who wants to learn from better and more experienced investors and to earn a decent rate of return on my investments over my entire lifetime. Follower of the Graham & Dodd investing philosophy, I admire investors such as Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, Walter J. Schloss, P. Fisher or Peter Lynch. I also learn from other academics such as Bruce Greenwald or Michael Porter. I try to look for undervalued securities and to buy them when a big enough margin of safety exists. I try to hold them as long as possible, forever being my ideal holding period, as Buffett would say. I don't care about charts, resistances or price averages. I don't care about macroeconomic data. I do care about company fundamentals. I do care about balance sheet valuation. I do care about competitive advantages and earnings power. Just like everyone else, I like to earn money. But above all I hate losing it.

I'm an investment professional with more than 15 years of trading experience.
My current and upcoming articles will contain a short synopsis of overall market developments on a weekly basis. Particular focus is on VIX-related instruments.
I'm a well-informed retail investor and post on SA in order to expose my thought process to critical examination and comment from readers. It makes me a better investor. I'm particularly proud of bullish macro articles posted in 2009 and later, in which I presented ideas that encouraged me to invest very profitably in a rising market. I also did articles on individual stocks, many of which contained insights not available elsewhere. Finally, I wrote a number of thoughtful articles critical of financialism and the lack of ethics on Wall Street. I donate the proceeds from my blogging to charity. The best way for me to monetize my insights is to invest accordingly. As a retail investor, I don't give investment advice. I write about what I'm investing in, and the thought process involved in decision making and stock selection. Hopefully some of what I write is of benefit to others, by sharing my experience as I interpret it and helping them improve their investment thinking and process.

Value investing partnership/hedge fund with a focus on value investing and special situations. The portfolio is very focused, and I typically hold between 20-25 individual long positions in common stocks.
I received my MBA in analytic finance and economics from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business in March of 2013, where I learned a significant amount about investing. Over the course of my life I've learned immeasurably more from a class that occurs one Saturday every year in Omaha, Nebraska. The class is virtually free of charge, and taught by two elderly men named Warren and Charlie. They teach me more about investing, business and life in 8 hours every year than a lifetime of MBA classes could, and I'm eternally grateful to them. I am also a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of Illinois.

I am a market enthusiast and part-time trader. I started writing for Seeking Alpha in 2011, and it has been a tremendous opportunity and learning experience. I have been interested in the markets since elementary school, and hope to pursue a career in the investment management industry. I have been active in the markets for several years, and am primarily focused on long/short equities. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lehigh University, where I double majored in Finance and Accounting, with a minor in History. My major track focused on Investments and Financial Analysis. While at Lehigh, I was the Head Portfolio Manager of the Investment Management Group, a student group that manages three portfolios, one long/short and two long only. I have had two internships, one a summer internship at a large bank, and another helping to manage the Lehigh University Endowment for nearly a year.

Edward Roche is the President of Freedom Mountain Investments (http://www.freedommount.com/), an investment firm founded in 2006, located in Paoli, Pennsylvania. Freedom Mountain specializes in identifying hidden value in small and mid size companies before they are recognized by the market. The investment approach is based upon fundamental analysis and places a high emphasis on real and rising financials including sales and earnings. One special approach used to identify a catalyst for release of value is the “Venerable Owner” strategy. This strategy tracks all companies where an older owner owns 40% or more of a company. These situations often lead to sale of the company at a significant premium to market value when the owner seeks to retire. Edward Roche received a Ph. D. degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and earned an MBA in Finance from the Haub School of Business, St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia PA. He recently completed a career at the McNeil division of Johnson & Johnson that included high level positions in Business Development and R&D. He is the inventor on 15 US patents in the area of drug delivery and has authored ten scientific publications.
I am a retired global analyst, currently busy in investing and writing articles about stocks at several investing publications and websites. I have also developed strategies for creating winning portfolios according to specific formulas.
In January 2015, I was ranked among the world’s top 10 financial bloggers according to TipRanks, which holds financial experts accountable for their recommendations by disclosing their stock ratings since 2009:
I am a Danish investor who enjoys to share my views on companies with others. My primary interests within the economic area are stock picking and investment theory. Furthermore I am a classic value investor.
I do not believe in market timing nor do I believe in any kind of chart analysis. I believe that owning great businesses at cheap prices during thick and thin will give you the best risk adjusted returns while sleeping well at night.
I am strongly influenced by theory and literature from numerous investors such as Buffett, Lynch, Greenblatt etc. I hold a MSc. in business economics from Denmark but the literature from various investors through time is worth more to me than anything I have and will ever read during my studies.
Dr. Jacques Saint-Pierre was full professor of finance at Laval University (founded in 1852) until his retirement in 2010, where he has taught finance at the bachelor, MBA and Ph.D. levels during 40 years. He is now adjunct professor at the same university and board adviser. He has been during his long career, among other things, securities regulator, business valuator, securities analyst, and court financial expert. He has always been a strong proponent of the value approach (value based management, and value investing) well before it became so popular. Some of his academic writings on the subject can be read on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) at http://ssrn.com/author=12155 where his author rank is in the first 5th percentile out of more than 280 000 authors.
I try to adhere to the investing priciples laid down by Graham and Buffett, but sometimes it is difficult to control my emotions -- cash not yet invested is often burning a hole in my pocket.
Since my portfolio is small, it might be the best to go with a simple index fund, but I like to learn about the world around, and thus I occasionally analyse a few companies and buy some small pieces of them. My ultimate goal is to create an income stream that would allow me to safely retire.
In my professional life, I am a mathematician (graph theory, combinatorics, algorithms), a teacher (computer science and mathematics courses), and an IT developer (mostly programming in Java and Python).

I was born in Spain and lived in France, Chile, USA and Belgium. Currently I am trying to settle down in Brazil. I am "retired", even though now I dedicate more hours "working" for my investments than I ever worked in the real labor market where I used to work in IT and Banking. I am a family man, I have a lovely wife, Bieke and four male sons. I have humble tastes, I like to stay home and read about companies and investments and build my new house. I started investing at 25 before the internet bubble exploded. I did not know much about investing and liked technical analysis so my results were pretty bad. Fortunately I did not have much to lose. Some years later in 2006 bored of doing only real state investments and with quite a lot of money saved I opened an account in a cheap and excellent online broker and started again. This time I did not want to commit the same mistake, so I decided to follow a model. I heard that Warren Buffett was the best at making money via stocks so I started by reading a lot about him, all of his shareholders letters and several of the books that he recommended. I learned a lot, started applying his investing principles and reading a lot of 10K's from lots of different sources of information. I basically started buying very good and cheap companies and holding them for ever if possible and if nothing changed fundamentally. When the housing crisis started I was more than 75% cash. At that time I identified good companies at incredibly cheap prices so I invested 100% in stocks instead of only 25%. In less than I year I doubled. By the second semester of 2009 I turned my software company into an investment vehicle and dedicated myself full time to it. My wife and I decided to change our lifestyle and moved from Belgium to the beach in Brazil, north east coast (see pictures here www.kuchita.com). The goal was to keep fixed costs low in order to be able to live with a minimum 6-8% yearly return but specially to move away from the inhuman life of civilisation and to have finally some peace and sunny weather to concentrate better on investing. Now I can think and study about companies as long as I want and I am doing great. I can finally do what I want full time and can proudly say that I have never been so happy, with my great kids and my sweet wife who supports me fully. Currently I pass most of my time building my house while I monitor my investments and prepare for the moment to make the next swing. You can see my portfolio at http://www.kuchita.com/view/sumo.php or follow my investments and their rationale on my blog http://investing.kuchita.com
Best wishes !
Having always been a learning machine, I speak five languages, have worked as a sales agent, project manager, translator, computer consultant, software engineer, built a house with my own hands, published books and essays on literature, philosophy and art, have written for magazines of various kinds in different countries.
After retiring early in 2004, little by little, I have become a fund manager for some friends and myself, following the principles of value investing laid out by Benjamin Graham, Phil Fisher, Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett.
In 2015 I won the Seeking Alpha Contrarian Contest and have been a regular contributor to Seeking Alpha Pro right from the start.
I strive to gather above-average knowledge about my stock picks. As this takes many hours, despite managing my portfolio full-time, you should not expect me to throw out new ideas each and every week.
One can't be an expert on everything, but can try to acquire deep knowledge about a careful selection of businesses. Only knowledge can provide the required conviction to profit from temporary market inefficiencies (i.e. buy into a sell-off).
If you want to learn more about my research process, take a look at my Marketplace service "Stability & Opportunity". It offers access to the totality of my research notes and updates several times daily on average.
