I am currently a portfolio manager at an RIA in Philadelphia with over $1 billion in assets. The portfolio is dedicated towards macro themed positioning with equities, ETFs, fixed income, as well as options and other alternatives. There are opportunities everywhere, both on the long and short side, and I aim to generate absolute returns on an annualized basis for clients. My absolute return portfolio has returned double-digit percentage returns over the last decade regardless of if the market is selling off, or rallying higher with enthusiasm. Relative returns are nice, but at the end of the day, you can't eat relative returns. When the S&P 500 is down 20%, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to be down too. Join my Marketplace service, Absolute Returns, and see how I am positioning my portfolio in real-time, and what trade ideas are coming about daily. I also offer a live chat as part of the service, where questions and ideas can be discussed.

I am a buy-side analyst for various private wealth managers, institutional and accredited investors. My goal for articles on Seeking Alpha is to bring exposure to business development companies (BDCs) that finance small to medium sized businesses, typically overlooked by banks. BDCs are an instrument for investors to earn healthy dividends by avoiding double taxation at the corporate level and allowing income to flow directly to shareholders. Please see website link below for more information.
I am Seeking Alpha’s Executive Director, Measurement and Insight for advertising sales and marketing. For more than 10 years I have been immersed in data at multimedia companies such as The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek/Washington Post and Viacom. I joined Seeking Alpha in 2014 to build the sales team’s arsenal of third party market research and to help utilize internal data to build client relationships and develop strategies.
Civil engineer using nurtured logical predictive ability to increase my retirement accounts and thereby recover somewhat from the one two punch of a divorce (in 2007 I borrowed to settle and keep real estate) and real estate downturn (2008 my real estate went underwater).

Riches are made through focus and concentration on a few stocks. Riches are kept through diversification . . .
Don't try what I am doing without your own extensive research.
My focus is generally (but not always) small to mid cap stocks in the less sexy industries. My investment strategy - and by extension what I write about - leans toward these sleeper equities with almost no coverage here or elsewhere. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't make it inherently a bad investment. I also know a lot about investing in the ferrous metal industry and am writing a book on it. Hopefully a non-fiction book. There's thousands of companies on American exchanges that aren't named "Amazon", "Facebook", "Tesla", "Apple" and "Google". Isn't it time you learned about some of them?

I am an activist investor in US and Chinese stocks. I was previously an investment banker in New York Hong Kong and London for 9 years, focused on Equity Capital Markets. I look at both long ideas and short ideas and typically focus on a small number on names where I can spend the time to conduct very deep research. I spend my time living between Los Angeles and Beijing, China.
Independent investor with over twenty years of trading experience across multiple asset classes. My main focus is on equities and fixed income with an emphasis on deep value and special situations. A former derivatives trader at top-tier U.S. financial institution.
BQ started his career more than a decade ago as a trading algorithm developer and later became a research analyst. He currently manages a fund of family and friends, and is pursuing an entrepreneurial opportunity in the financial domain. Found the hard way that investing tended to return healthier and sustainable returns than day trading. He's an Electronics and Communications engineer, holds an MBA in Finance and writes mostly about Technology and Telecom companies.
A graduate of both Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, George Putnam, III first became involved with distressed securities as a lawyer in the late 1970s. Seeing the inefficient niche that bankruptcies and turnarounds were presented and researched, he founded New Generation Research, Inc. and began publishing The Turnaround Letter in 1986. Since then he has frequently been quoted in Barron's, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today and other financial publications. In 1990, he was named investment advisor of the year by USA Today. In addition to his responsibilities at New Generation Research, Inc., Mr. Putnam also serves as a trustee for The Putnam Companies, a mutual fund group with over $100 billion in assets.
I began investing in the 90s, when I purchased a few shares of Apple. The shares took off without me--I sold a few months later for what I thought was a shrewd profit--but I was hooked, and I have been researching companies and investing in stocks ever since. I am an avid believer in combining technical analysis and fundamental research, and I have been studying chart reading and researching companies for over twenty years. My technical analysis hero is Thomas Bulkowski, and I find inspiration and guidance in the books of William O'Neil. I grew up in Montana and currently live in Washington State. My goal is financial independence, so that I may devote more time to the cherished things in my life: family, skiing, auto restoration, and investing.

"In investing, what is comfortable is rarely profitable." - Robert Arnott
I am a "Value" and "Growth" retail investor, looking for opportunities in emerging and undervalued stocks, often counter to conventional thought. I use fundamentals to back up my argument, and also like to point out stocks which I believe to be overvalued. I have enjoyed nice gains from using my strategies, finding value in Research in Motion, SuperValue, ZipCar, and ClearWire (before they all jumped 60% or more). I have been actively trading for more than half a decade, studying mostly stocks. Having the privilege of living in New York, I have attended investor conferences, and sector exhibitions - I am particularly interested in the technological sector. Being a small business owner, I like to see first hand how certain stocks affect their consumers, by doing research in the public and on eBay (where I sell some of my inventory). There are always good investments, and I try to find them through both growth, opportunity, and value.
Full-time investor searching for A players, clean capital structures & scalable growth. No cigar butts or conventional wisdom. My investment philosophy is similar to how I live my life: acquire a few prized possessions, minimize clutter and maintain flexibility.
