My 1,000th Article: How Dividend Investing Has Worked For Me

Summary

  • Perhaps folks are a bit curious about me, but probably not that much.
  • I thought I would share a few details about me (old photos included) for my 1,000th article.
  • Here are the simple rules I followed for dividend growth investing to work for me.

It's hard for me to believe that I have now written 1,000 articles exclusively for Seeking Alpha, but in what seems like a blink of an eye, nearly 10 years have flown by. I've never written about myself so please bear with me.

Most of you know of my recent battles with stage 4 cancer and that I am fortunate to be in 100% remission as of now. I think the many prayers and well wishes I received from the Seeking Alpha community helped me keep a positive attitude throughout my ordeal, and for that I will be forever grateful and humbled.

While I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1949, I actually grew up on Long Island. I went to college on Long Island and spent the first third of my life in the suburbs, part of a middle-class family.

My dad was a real live hero during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart while parachuting behind enemy lines on D-Day with the famous 101st airborne division during day one of the Normandy invasion. He was, and always will be, my hero.

After college in 1971 I enlisted in the military and although I thankfully did not see combat during Vietnam, I was trained as an M60 machine gunner and was ready and able to go if I was called upon - well, maybe not so willing, but that's another story.

After the service I went into the working world where, although I did very nicely, I never was able to save a dime and I spent more than I made. I suppose one could say I was just like anyone else of that era, and trust me, my investing acumen was less than zero.
