Now that 2025 has begun, investors should make note of stock market holidays scheduled for the year.

Whether you are an investor, a professional money manager, or you work in the financial media, it's wise to know about and plan for the stock market holidays and hours.

Stock Market 2025 Holiday Calendar

The stock market holidays are the same each year but the calendar days are not exactly the same. Some of the holidays will fall on a Saturday or Sunday, which means that the holiday is observed on a Friday or Monday, respectively.

Here is the schedule of stock market holidays for 2025:

Note: If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the stock market will normally observe the holiday and close on the preceding Friday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the stock market will normally be closed on the following Monday.

What Is a Stock Market Holiday?

A stock market holiday is a day when the stock exchanges, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the NASDAQ, are closed for trading in observance of certain national holidays. Prior to 2022, there was no Juneteenth National Independence Day.

Important: The NYSE and NASDAQ exchanges are closed for the same ten holidays each year; however, the calendar day on which the holiday occurs can vary from year to year on some holidays.

When Does the Stock Market Open and Close?

The stock market normally opens at 9:30am EST and normally closes at 4:00pm EST. With exception of closures due to holidays or exceptional circumstances, the stock market maintains these hours of operation every week, Monday through Friday.

Like the stock market holidays, bond market holidays are days in which the bond market is closed for trading in observance of a U.S. national holiday. The bond market shares the same holiday schedule as the stock market with two additional holidays and with a few extra pre-holiday days in which it closes early.

What Are the Bond Market Hours?

The stock market and bond market do not share the same hours.

These are the NYSE bond market trading hours:

  • Early Trading: 4:00am EST - 8:00am EST
  • Core Trading: 8:00am EST - 5:00pm EST
  • Late Trading: 5:00pm EST - 8:00pm EST
