I’m going to take a wild guess that all Tesla cars and trucks will come with Starlink internet – built with mobile in mind. So will all self driving cars and trucks, and GM, Ford, Toyota, Mercedes... One ISP to rule them all. ARKW is good to go. When is Ark’s space fund opening?

Did we read the same article? Was this an article about beating the S&P 500 ETF, and over what period? I thought it was about one method of quantifying quality, as opposed to value or performance. I think you are describing a new article. Perhaps you could write it? The questions you raise are interesting. I look forward to reading it!

"48 years ago, XOM's stock price was around $2.30. Buyandhold 2012 is enjoying a dividend yield of 132%. ... That's a stock he can leave to his grandchildren."A brilliant purchase for a 13 year old. I wonder how many shares he bought. 132% dividend yield on 10 shares would amount to over $30 today. That must be how he retired so comfortably. His grandchildren will certainly appreciate that.If I recall correctly, the year he bought XOM was also the year he did not go to Woodstock. I didn't go to Woodstock that year either.

5ofDiamonds, you are off to a great start. You might want to expand your universe to include the Dividend Champions. I believe the Kings are limited to S&P 500 stocks. That is an arbitrarily narrow slice. The Champions list includes all US stocks that meet the 25+ year criteria of unbroken dividend increases. So it includes all of the Dividend Kings, and the barons, dukes and earls too. The same high quality, but much more to choose from and a greater likelihood of finding value.

“The big sale may never happen on great quality stock. It's like to wait for a 50% rebate on a new iPhone...”Funny you should mention that. AT&T has a buy-one-get-one-free sale on the iPhone X and 8 models right now. Verizon has a similar BOGO program. Don’t underestimate the market.

They bought the exact same stocks in the regular portfolio, except the MLPs and REITs. Instead they bought the previously published alternates, for instance SE instead of SEP.

You're a little late to the party, with a personal slight and gratuitous negativity. EMR is up 11.7% since the article was written. SPY is up 6%. But it is still far too short term to declare victory, unless you're a trader. EMR has served me well as a portfolio dividend stalwart for years. I don't see it changing rolls in the future. And for that purpose, it furthers my goals.
