Also how are you exactly valuing the future profits of the ventures ? 15% growth in profits of Ventures or is it revenue growth of 15% of the ventures? Does this also translate to 15% growth in the fair value of Ventures reported in the Balance Sheet ?

Is Ventures reported in fair value in the Balance Sheet or at Cost ? As far as I know GAAP requires valuation to be presented at fair values and upside reflected in the Income Statement. If so, book value rising only 3% per year is not bad given that many private companies saw their valuations curbed down, right ?

Comparing Canadian banks with US banks pre-finanfial crisis is unfair because the top 5 banks are some of the most capitalized in the world.

You talked nothing about the Basel III ratios - Canadian banks have substantial cushion to withstand severe recessions.

While you are right to point the ever-growing household debt condition, it is fair to say that when it comes to debt/disposable income ratios - much of real estate price growth came at the back of wealthy immigrants investing in real estate. The disposable income underscores the ability of immigrants to pay their debt from their overseas income/assets.

When I look at leverage - I think it is important to realize Canada's population( accounting for only legal population) is growing at a faster rate than the US !

In short, I wouldn't bet against Canadian banks.
